Kim from Sydney, New South Wales, Australia asked:

Is cancer en cuirasse a different cancer to the original?

Cancer survial mechanism

Is this correct? Does that mean a second round of chemotherapy may be recommended?

Our answer

Cancer en cuirasse is a medical term that describes a rare manifestation of breast cancer, characterised by a thickening of the skin on one or both sides of the thorax (chest) and surrounding areas. It gets its name from cuirasse, the French word for an armoured breastplate worn in the middle ages. It is essentially the same cancer in a different place and may well require a second different chemotherapy.
